  1.             This book is distributed in a form that is designed
  2.         to be easily accessible with the maximum range of computer
  3.         and printer types. Because of this, many frills (such as
  4.         fancy formatting) are omitted. To print the text of the
  5.         book on your printer, you can use the command
  6.         COPY HOWMIND.DOC PRN
  7.         at the DOS prompt on IBM compatible computers. On other
  8.         computers, use the equivalent command to send an ASCII text
  9.         file to the printer. The HOWMIND.DOC file is in ASCII text,
  10.         with page numbers and a form feed at the bottom of each
  11.         page.
  12.             Although most of this book is pure text, there are
  13.         six graphic figures in chapter 1. These are provided as both
  14.         PCX and GIF files in this package. The files FIG11.PCX (or
  15.         FIG11.GIF) through FIG16.PCX (or FIG16.GIF) correspond to
  16.         figures 1.1 through 1.6. Most people have some type of
  17.         program capable of displaying and even printing these
  18.         pictures. For example, if you have Windows 3.0 or 3.1, you
  19.         can load the PCX files into the Windows Paintbrush program
  20.         and have this program print out the pictures to almost any
  21.         graphic printer (I recommend a 200% scaling while printing).
  22.         There are also many shareware programs capable of displaying
  23.         and/or printing GIF or PCX pictures. If the shareware picture
  24.         viewer you have does not include print capability, you can
  25.         load the GRAPHICS.COM program that comes with IBM DOS
  26.         (assuming you have an IBM compatible computer) and use it to
  27.         do a graphic screen dump. This package also includes an
  28.         executable program for IBM PCs called ALLFIGS.EXE that will
  29.         display all the figures on the screen at the same time. If
  30.         you use GRAPHICS.COM to do a screen dump from ALLFIGS.EXE, I
  31.         suggest you load GRAPHICS.COM with the GRAPHICS /R option.
  32.             If you cannot print the pictures, they are not
  33.         absolutely essential, since the text describes them.
